On April 6, 2012 Hot Spots (FrontierMEDEX) issued the following statement regarding Kenya: “According to reports on 6 April 2012 the Kenyan government has increased security across the country and has urged citizens and tourists to take additional precautions ahead of Easter celebrations. A recent increase in al-Shabab attacks — including a grenade explosion at a Christian meeting near Mombasa on 31 March — prompted the increased vigilance. Security personnel have been deployed to public spaces, such as tourist beaches, transportation hubs and shopping centers, and authorities have urged the tourism industry in Kilifi, Lamu and Mombasa to increase security measures as well. Government officials insist that the additional measures are sufficient to deter terrorist incidents over the holiday weekend and that travelers should not defer plans to visit Kenya.”
This corresponds with other public information available concerning threats in Kenya during this Easter season.
